Common Dishwasher Problems We Fix

Dishwasher leaves standing waterA clogged filter, a kinked drain hose or a worn drain pump.

Start with the filter at the bottom of the tub. If it's clean, the drain hose may be kinked or blocked, or the drain pump may be worn or jammed with glass.

Dishes come out gritty or cloudyHard-water scale, blocked spray arms or a weak wash pump.

White film is usually hard-water scale. Clean the filter, run a citric acid cleaner and keep rinse aid topped up. Spray arms with blocked holes or a weak wash pump leave food behind.

Water leaking onto the floorA worn door gasket, a loose connection or too much detergent.

A worn door gasket, a loose supply connection, or a cracked spray arm throwing water at the door. Too much detergent can also push suds past the seal.

Won't start, or stops mid-cycleThe door latch switch, a stuck float switch or the control board.

The door latch switch, a stuck float switch or the control board. A dishwasher that stops with water in it often has a drain or heater fault behind it.

Dishes don't dry

A failed heating element on models that use one, an empty rinse aid dispenser, or a vent that isn't opening. Plastic rarely dries fully in any dishwasher.

E15 or another error code on a Bosch

E15 means water has collected in the base pan and the leak-protection float has tripped. The leak has to be found and the base dried before the code clears.

Dishwasher Repair Questions

Why does my dishwasher leave a white film?

San Antonio's water is hard, and the minerals leave scale on glasses and inside the machine. Rinse aid helps, and a monthly citric acid cleaning cycle keeps it under control. Many dishwashers also let you set the water hardness in their settings.

Should I run the dishwasher again if water is sitting in the bottom?

No. Running it again won't clear a drain problem and can overflow. Clean the filter first. If water still sits there, the drain path needs to be checked.

Could my garbage disposal be causing the drain problem?

It can. If the disposal was just installed, the knockout plug in the dishwasher inlet may still be in place. A clogged disposal can also back water up into the dishwasher.

What does E15 mean on a Bosch dishwasher?

Water has collected in the base pan under the tub, which trips a float switch and stops the machine. The source of the leak needs to be found and the base dried before it will run normally.
