Common Problems We Fix
Pick an appliance to see common symptoms and what usually causes them.
RefrigerationRunning but not cooling
Usually a dusty condenser coil or an evaporator fan that has stopped.
Ice maker stopped making ice
Often the water inlet valve, a frozen fill tube or the ice maker module.
Water on the floor or under the crisper drawers
A cracked drain pan, a split supply line or a clogged defrost drain.
Frost building up on the freezer's back wall
The defrost heater, thermostat or control, or a torn door gasket.
RefrigerationFood is soft but not thawed
A weak start component, a dirty condenser or a door that won't seal.
Runs constantly and never cycles off
Dust on the condenser, a failing fan, low refrigerant or a hot garage.
Thick ice around the lid of a chest freezer
Usually a worn lid gasket or a lid that isn't closing flat.
Upright freezer iced over at the back
A failed defrost heater, defrost timer or defrost thermostat.
CookingOven won't heat to temperature
A weak bake igniter on gas ovens; the bake element or sensor on electric.
Food burns on the bottom, raw on top
A dead broil element or convection fan, or a sensor out of calibration.
Burner won't light, or keeps clicking
Moisture from a boil-over, a cracked igniter or the spark module.
Door stays locked after self-clean
The latch motor or lock switch has failed. Don't force the door.
CookingGas burner won't ignite
A burner cap that isn't seated, blocked ports or a cracked igniter.
Weak, yellow or uneven flame
Clogged burner ports or a misaligned cap, sometimes the valve or regulator.
One radiant zone won't heat
The element, a burned terminal or the switch that controls it.
Induction zone shows an error or won't detect the pan
Check the pan is magnetic. If it is, a fan, sensor or power board.

A clogged filter, a kinked drain hose or a worn drain pump.
Dishes come out gritty or cloudy
Hard-water scale, blocked spray arms or a weak wash pump.
Water leaking onto the floor
A worn door gasket, a loose connection or too much detergent.

The door latch switch, a stuck float switch or the control board.
CookingRuns but doesn't heat
Usually the magnetron, high-voltage diode or capacitor. Not a DIY job.
Sparks inside the cavity
Metal inside, or a burned waveguide cover on the side wall.
Turntable won't turn
A loose roller ring or coupler, or a failed turntable motor.
Keypad doesn't respond or it won't start
A worn keypad or a faulty door switch.
